About the Hijri Date Converter
Convert any Gregorian date to its Hijri (Islamic) date, or a Hijri date to the Gregorian calendar — for Ramadan and Eid dates, Hajj, official documents from Gulf countries, or simply today’s Hijri date.
The converter uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, Saudi Arabia’s official calendar, which is built into every modern browser. Countries and communities that begin each month with a local moon sighting can be a day or two different.
How does the Hijri Date Converter work?
The Hijri calendar is lunar: each month is 29 or 30 days and a year is about 354 days, so Hijri dates move about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.
Umm al-Qura months are set in advance from astronomical calculations of the new moon as seen from Mecca, which is why the calendar can be calculated for any date.
Tips
- Islamic days begin at sunset, so an evening event may fall on the next Hijri date.
- Hijri years run from about 1300 to 1600 AH here — the range official calendars cover.
