Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information KitWren (“KitWren”, “we”) collects when you use this website, why, and the choices you have. The short version: most tools run entirely in your browser, we don’t need an account, and we don’t sell your data or your files.

Files and text you use in our tools

Each tool page states where its processing happens. Tools marked “Runs in your browser” — including all PDF tools, image tools, calculators, converters, text and developer tools — process your files and input on your own device. Your files are not uploaded to our servers.

Some tools need our server:

• AI tools send the text you enter to our server, which forwards it to our AI provider to generate a response. We do not store the text or the response after the request completes. The AI provider processes it under its own terms and does not use it to train models under our agreement with them where that option is available.
• Website checks (such as the HTTP status checker) send the web address you enter to our server, which requests that address and returns the result. The website screenshot tool passes the address to our screenshot provider to capture the page. We don’t keep the addresses you check.
• Currency rates are fetched by our server from an exchange-rate provider; no personal information is sent.

Learning (KitWren Learn)

No account is needed. Your learning progress — lessons completed, quiz scores, XP, streaks, vocabulary reviews and drafts — is saved in your browser’s local storage on your device, not on our servers. You can export it to a file or delete it from the Learning Progress page.

Speaking practice records audio in your browser; recordings stay on your device and are discarded when you leave the page. Speech-to-text is provided by your browser: some browsers (for example Chrome) send the audio to their maker’s speech service to do this. If you ask for AI feedback or use the AI English Tutor, the text of your answer or message is sent to our server and our AI provider, as described for AI tools above.

If we add tools that must upload files, those files will be deleted automatically after processing (within one hour at most), and the tool page will say so before you upload anything.

Usage statistics

We keep simple, anonymous statistics to understand which tools are used and to fix problems: pages viewed, tools opened and completed, searches made on the site, errors, the website that referred you, your device type (mobile, tablet or desktop) and your country (derived from your connection, not stored as an IP address). These statistics use no cookies. To count daily visitors we use a one-way hash of your IP address and browser details combined with a secret that changes every day; it cannot identify you and cannot be linked across days. We never record what you type into tools, except search terms typed into our site search.

Cookies and similar storage

We store your preferences (dark mode, currency, favourites, recently used tools, cookie choices) in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device. With your consent we also use Google Analytics and Google AdSense, which set cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details and how to change your choice.

Advertising and affiliate links

The site is funded by advertising and by affiliate links. Ads are shown by Google AdSense only if you allow advertising cookies (where consent is required). Affiliate links are always labelled; if you click one we record that a click happened (not who clicked) and redirect you to the partner, who may set their own cookies under their own privacy policy.

Legal bases and your rights

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on legitimate interests for anonymous statistics and security, and on your consent for analytics and advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time using “Cookie settings” in the footer. You may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to processing of personal data; because we hold very little that identifies you, most requests can be answered quickly. Security and retention

Connections to the site are encrypted (HTTPS). Anonymous statistics are kept for up to 13 months. Server logs kept by our hosting provider for security are retained for a short period under the provider’s policy.

Children

The site is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We’ll update this page if our practices change, and change the date at the top.
