About the Password Generator

Generate a random password with the length and character types you need, or a passphrase of random words that’s easier to type and remember.

Passwords are created in your browser using a cryptographically secure random generator. They aren’t sent anywhere or stored.

How does the Password Generator work?

Strength is measured in bits of entropy: length × log₂(number of possible characters). Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses an attacker needs.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a password be?

At least 12–16 characters for important accounts. Length matters more than symbols.

Are passphrases secure?

Yes, if the words are chosen randomly. Five random words from a large list give around 40 bits; add more words or a number for more strength.
