What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It is about half the size of JPG, but many apps, websites and Windows PCs can’t open it.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
Very little. Photos are saved as high-quality JPG; you can adjust the quality before downloading. JPG files are usually larger than the HEIC originals.
How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Existing HEIC photos stay as they are.
Is the photo’s orientation kept?
Yes. Rotation stored in the photo is applied, so pictures come out the right way up.
