How does the Typing Speed Test (WPM) work?
Typing speed is measured in words per minute, where a “word” is any five characters including spaces. Only correctly typed characters count towards your WPM; raw WPM counts everything you typed.
Accuracy is the share of the characters you typed that match the passage.
Typing Speed Test (WPM) formula
WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes

Tips
- Accuracy first: speed builds naturally once you stop correcting mistakes.
- Keep your eyes on the screen, not the keyboard, and rest your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;).
- A few short tests a day improve speed faster than one long session.
