How does the Word Counter work?
A word is any run of letters or numbers, including words joined by apostrophes or hyphens (“don’t”, “well-known”). Sentences end with a full stop, question mark, exclamation mark or ellipsis. Paragraphs are separated by a blank line.
Reading time assumes an average adult reading speed of 238 words per minute; speaking time assumes 150 words per minute.
