About the Website SEO Audit
Find out what’s stopping a website ranking. Enter its address and the audit reads up to 20 pages the way a search engine does, then lists every problem it finds — most important first — with why it matters and exactly how to fix it.
It checks page titles and meta descriptions (missing, duplicated or the wrong length), headings, broken pages, “noindex” tags, canonical tags, mobile set-up, thin content, images without alt text, insecure content, slow responses, structured data, social sharing tags, the XML sitemap, robots.txt and the HTTP-to-HTTPS redirect.
Each audit is saved with its own link. Fix the issues, then press “Re-run and compare” to see your new score and which problems are gone.
How does the Website SEO Audit work?
Starting from the home page, the audit follows the site’s own links to up to 20 pages, reading each one’s HTML like Google’s crawler. It also fetches robots.txt and the sitemap, and checks that http:// redirects to https://.
Every issue is graded critical, warning or tip. The score starts at 100 and loses 15 points per critical issue, 6 per warning and 2 per tip — so fixing the critical ones first moves it most.
Tips
- Start with critical issues: a “noindex” tag or a robots.txt that blocks everything can hide a whole site from Google.
- Unique titles and descriptions for every page are the quickest win on most small-business sites.
- After fixing, ask Google to recrawl important pages in Search Console’s URL Inspection tool.
- Run the audit on competitors too, or compare pages side by side with the competitor comparison tool.
