About the Distance Calculator Between Cities
Find how far apart two major cities are — Sydney to London, New York to Paris, Dubai to Mumbai — as a straight line over the Earth’s surface, in kilometres, miles and nautical miles.
It also gives a rough direct-flight time, handy for planning, though real flights take longer with stops, routing and winds.
How does the Distance Calculator Between Cities work?
The distance is the great-circle distance between city centres, worked out with the haversine formula on a sphere with the Earth’s mean radius (6,371 km). The rough flight time assumes a cruising speed of about 800 km/h plus 30 minutes for take-off and landing.
