Calculate the number of tiles for any rectangular area from the tile size and grout gap, with an allowance for cuts and breakages.

tiles = area ÷ ((tile length + gap) × (tile width + gap)) × (1 + waste%)

How much extra tile should I allow?

10% for straight layouts, 15–20% for diagonal layouts, large-format tiles or rooms with many cuts. Keep a few spare for future repairs.
