Practise by topic
Australia and its people
The first Australians, early European settlement, Federation, the states and territories, and national symbols and days.
Democratic beliefs, rights and liberties
Parliamentary democracy, the rule of law, freedoms of speech, religion and association, equality, and the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship.
Government and the law
The Constitution, the three levels of government, Parliament, the separation of powers, the courts and how laws are made.
Australian values
Respect, freedom, equality, the rule of law, peacefulness, a ‘fair go’ and English as the national language. In the real test you must answer all 5 values questions correctly.
Mock tests
Each mock has 20 questions, 5 of them on values, and a 45-minute timer. No question repeats between mocks, so the five together cover 100 questions.
How to prepare
- Read the official booklet, Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond, from the Home Affairs website. The test questions come from its testable sections.
- Practise one topic at a time here, starting with Australian values: you must get every values question right.
- Read the explanation for every question you miss, then go back to that part of the booklet.
- When you score well on every topic, take the five mock tests under time.
KitWren is independent and not affiliated with the Department of Home Affairs. These are original practice questions written from the topics in the official booklet, Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond. They are not the official test questions. Read the booklet and check the Home Affairs website for the current test rules before your appointment.
Australian citizenship test: questions
How many questions are in the Australian citizenship test?
20 multiple-choice questions, answered on a computer in English, with 45 minutes to finish. Five of the questions are about Australian values.
What is the pass mark?
You need at least 75% (15 of 20) and you must answer all 5 values questions correctly. A score of 19 with one values question wrong is not a pass.
Where do the test questions come from?
From the testable sections of the official booklet, Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond: Australia and its people; democratic beliefs, rights and liberties; government and the law; and Australian values.
Are these the real test questions?
No. The official questions aren't published. KitWren's questions are original practice written from the booklet's topics, to help you check what you know.
Can I take the test in another language?
The test itself is in English. The explanations here can also be shown in Arabic to help you understand each topic, and Home Affairs publishes the booklet in other languages too.
What happens if I don't pass?
Home Affairs lets you sit the test again; check the current rules and how to rebook on its website or with the staff at your appointment.
