Speaking with impact
Make every word count: concise impact, memorable phrasing, strategic storytelling and presence in meetings, interviews and talks.
In this lesson you will
- Speak concisely with impact
- Craft memorable phrases
- Show presence in professional settings
Learn
Headline first: state the point in one sentence before explaining: The short answer is yes — and here’s why. In meetings, fewer, sharper contributions beat many long ones.
Memorable phrasing: contrast (not more rules — better rules), concrete images (a leaky bucket), numbers made human (one in three of us), and the rule of three.
Strategic stories: a 30-second story with a clear point is more persuasive than abstract claims. Situation — challenge — action — result — lesson.
Presence: steady pace, deliberate pauses, open posture, finishing sentences with a falling intonation (not uptalk), and silence after your key point.
Examples
- The short answer is no. The longer answer is ‘not yet’.
- We don’t have a recruitment problem; we have a retention problem.
- That’s a leaky bucket: we keep pouring customers in and losing them at the bottom.
- One in three of the people in this room will…
