Making a TOEFL study plan

Plan your TOEFL preparation: take a diagnostic, set a 1–6 target per section, practise each task type and review mistakes weekly.

In this lesson you will

  • Diagnose your level by section
  • Set section targets from university requirements
  • Build a weekly plan covering every task type

Learn

1. Diagnose: try each task type once under time pressure (KitWren practice sets and mocks give educational estimates). Note which task types cost you the most.

2. Targets: check your programme’s requirement — overall and per section. Set a target for each section, not just the overall score.

3. Weekly plan: short, frequent practice suits the 2026 format, which has many short tasks. Rotate task types: e.g. Complete the Words and Build a Sentence daily (10 minutes), two emails and two discussion posts a week, daily interview answers recorded.

4. Review: keep an error log by task type (Choose a Response — chose a reply that repeated a word but didn’t answer). Re-practise the weakest task each weekend.

Examples

  • Requirement: overall 4.5, no section below 4 → target Writing 4.5 (weakest now).
  • Error log: Build a Sentence — put the adverb in the wrong place.
  • Daily habit: 10 minutes of Complete the Words to build spelling and grammar awareness.
