Practical drafting workflows
Put everything together: how a real drawing moves from a sketch or survey to an issued, revised set — and the checks that stop mistakes reaching site.

1. Set up
Create the folder structure, start from the office template, agree units and origin, and set up the xref structure and sheet list before drawing. Ten minutes of setup avoids days of rework.
2. Import what you're given
- Survey DWG: xref it as an overlay in its real coordinates; don't move it.
- PDF drawings:
PDFIMPORTconverts vector PDFs to editable geometry; check scale against a known dimension and fix with SCALE › Reference.
- Images or scans:
ATTACHthe image, scale it by reference, then trace on your own layers.
- Hand sketches: treat dimensions on the sketch as the truth, not the sketch's proportions.
3. Draw in a sensible order
Grids and setting-out → external walls → internal walls → openings → stairs and fixed items → annotation → sheets. Work from large to small and from structure to finish, so later elements snap to earlier, correct ones.
4. Check
Self-check before anyone else sees it:
- 1Dimensions add up and match the brief or survey.
- 2Every view has a title and scale; every section and detail reference points to a real sheet.
- 3Layers, styles and lineweights follow the standard; nothing on 0 or Defpoints.

- 6A second person checks and signs off.
5. Revise and issue
Changes after an issue are marked with a revision cloud (REVCLOUD) and a revision triangle, recorded in the title block's revision table with date and description, and listed in the drawing register. Remove clouds from the previous revision when you issue the next, so the latest changes are clear. Archive every issue.

Common mistakes
Trusting a PDF's scale.
Always verify against a known dimension before tracing.
Revisions made without clouds or register updates.
Every change after issue is clouded and recorded.

Revise and reissue
- Take your floor plan and issue it as revision A (PDF in an Issued folder).
- Move a door and change a room size.
- Cloud the changes, add revision B to the title block and register.
- Use COMPARE (if available) to confirm what changed.
- Issue revision B.
You should end up with: Two archived issues with a clear revision trail.
