Project 1: Draw a simple floor plan

Your first complete drawing: a one-bedroom flat, about 9 × 7 metres, with walls, door and window openings, room names and overall dimensions.

By the end of this project you will

  • Set up a drawing in millimetres
  • Draw external and internal walls with offset
  • Cut door and window openings and add door swings
  • Label rooms and check overall sizes

Project brief

Objective

Produce an accurate, tidy floor plan of a one-bedroom flat using only beginner commands, ready to be dimensioned and plotted in later projects.

Skills you need

The brief

A one-bedroom flat with internal dimensions of 9000 × 7000 mm. External walls are 230 mm thick, internal walls 110 mm. It contains a combined living/kitchen area, a bedroom and a bathroom.

  • Bedroom: 3500 wide, right-hand side, top part of the plan (3500 × 3250 internal).
  • Bathroom: below the bedroom, 3500 wide.
  • Entry door: 920 wide in the bottom wall of the living area.
  • Internal doors: 820 wide. Windows: 1500 wide in living, 1200 in bedroom, 600 in bathroom.

Exact positions of openings are up to you — keep them sensible (at least 300 mm from wall corners).

Step 1 — Set up

  1. 1Start a new drawing from acadiso.dwt; set UNITS to Decimal, precision 0, Millimeters.
  2. 2Create layers A-WALL (0.50), A-DOOR (0.25), A-GLAZ (0.25), A-ANNO-TEXT (0.25).
  3. 3Save as P1-floor-plan.dwg.

Step 2 — External walls

  1. 1On A-WALL, draw the internal face as a closed polyline: REC, pick 0,0, then @9000,7000.
  2. 2OFFSET it 230 outward to create the external face.

Step 3 — Internal walls

  1. 1Draw a vertical line from the inside bottom wall to the inside top wall at X = 5500 — the bedroom-side face, leaving the bedroom and bathroom exactly 3500 wide.
  2. 2Offset it 110 to the left (X = 5390) for the living-side face.
  3. 3Draw the bedroom/bathroom wall across the right-hand zone: a horizontal line at Y = 3750 (bedroom side, leaving the bedroom 3250 deep), offset 110 down to Y = 3640.
  4. 4Trim the wall junctions so each wall is two clean lines.

Draw long, then trim back. Use TRIM in Quick mode and click the pieces inside the junctions.

Step 4 — Openings

  1. 1For each opening, draw two short lines across the wall thickness at the opening edges, using FRO or tracking from a corner (e.g. entry door starts 1200 from the bottom-left corner).
  2. 2Trim the wall lines between them to leave a gap.
  3. 3Draw window symbols on A-GLAZ: a line on each wall face across the opening plus one or two lines in the middle for the glass.
  4. 4Draw doors on A-DOOR: a leaf line the width of the door, perpendicular to the wall at the hinge side, and an arc for the swing.

Step 5 — Labels and checks

  1. 1On A-ANNO-TEXT, add room names with single-line text, 300 high (that is 3 mm at 1:100).
  2. 2Check the internal size of every room with DIST.
  3. 3Check the flat's internal area: select the internal-face polyline (before you trimmed openings, or draw a temporary one) and read the area — about 63 m².
  4. 4Save.

Your task

Draw it yourself

  1. Follow the steps without looking at a finished example.
  2. Swap the bedroom to the left-hand side as a variation.
  3. Add a 1800-long kitchen bench along one wall (600 deep).

You should end up with: A clean floor plan with no overlapping lines or gaps, ready for Project 2.
