Components and furniture
Components are everything that isn’t a wall, floor or roof: furniture, kitchens, bathroom fixtures, equipment. Learn to load, place and manage them.

Placing components
- 1Architecture › Component › Place a Component (CM).
- 2Choose the family type from the Type Selector, or Load Family.
- 3Press Space to rotate by 90° before clicking.
- 4Tick Rotate after placement on the Options Bar for other angles.
- 5Place it; adjust with temporary dimensions.
Hosted and non-hosted
Families are built to a host: non-hosted (furniture — placed on a level), wall-hosted (wall cabinets, basins that must sit on a wall), face-based (lights on a ceiling or any face), ceiling- or floor-hosted. If a component won't place, it's probably looking for a host it can't find.
Arranging
Use Align (AL) to line components up with walls, Copy (CO) with Multiple, Array (AR) for rows of seats, and Mirror (MM/DM). Group repeated arrangements (a desk with chair and monitor) with Create Group (GP) so they can be updated together.
Good content practice
Keep families simple: furniture doesn't need modelled screws. Heavy families slow every view they appear in. Use the content that ships with Revit, your office library, and manufacturers' official families. Check the licence for any downloaded content and avoid unofficial download sites.

Common mistakes
Wall basin won't place in open space.
It's wall-hosted — hover over a wall.
Model slows after adding downloaded furniture.
Replace heavy families with simpler ones; purge unused.
Exercise
Furnish the ground floor
- Place a sofa, dining table and chairs in the living area.
- Place kitchen casework along one wall and a wall-hosted basin in the bathroom.
- Array six chairs around a table.
- Group the dining set and copy it to test.
You should end up with: A furnished ground floor using sensible content.
