Rooms and areas
Rooms are spaces bounded by walls and floors. They carry names, numbers, areas and finishes, drive room schedules and colour-fill plans, and are central to building data.

Placing rooms
A room's area is calculated from its boundary — by default at the wall finish faces (set in Area and Volume Computations).
- 1Architecture › Room (RM).
- 2Tick Tag on placement.
- 3Hover inside a space bounded by walls; the boundary previews. Click to place.
- 4Or use Place Rooms Automatically for every enclosed space on the level.
Boundaries
Walls, floors, ceilings, roofs and columns are room bounding unless you untick that property. Where there's no wall — an open kitchen and living area — draw a Room Separation line to split them. A room placed in an unenclosed space reports as Not Enclosed.
Names, numbers and data
Name and number rooms in the tag or Properties. Add finishes (floor, wall, ceiling) and occupancy in the room's parameters — the room schedule then becomes a finishes schedule. Room heights: set Upper Limit and offset so the room's volume reaches the ceiling or level above.
Colour schemes and area plans
Add a Color Fill Legend (Annotate) to a plan to colour rooms by name, department or any parameter — great for presentation and space planning. Area Plans (Architecture › Area) measure areas by rules such as gross building area or rentable area, separate from rooms.

Common mistakes
Room says Not Enclosed.
Close the boundary with walls or separation lines; check walls are room bounding.
Room area includes the wall.
Check Area and Volume Computations (finish vs centre).
Exercise
Rooms and a colour plan
- Place rooms automatically on the ground floor.
- Split kitchen and living with a separation line.
- Name and number every room; add a floor finish parameter value.
- Create a duplicated plan with a colour fill by room name and a legend.
You should end up with: A room-filled plan with correct areas.
