Project 2: Two-storey house
Model a two-storey, three-bedroom house with a stair, then document it: plans for both floors, elevations, a section through the stair, door and window schedules, all on sheets.
By the end of this project you will
- Model a multi-storey building with a stair
- Coordinate walls and floors across levels
- Create plans, elevations and sections
- Schedule doors and windows and assemble sheets
Project brief
Objective
Produce a documented two-storey house model with plans, elevations, a section, schedules and four sheets exported to PDF.
The brief
A two-storey house, footprint about 10 × 8 m. Ground floor: living, kitchen/dining, laundry, WC, entry and stair. First floor: three bedrooms, bathroom, ensuite for the main bedroom and stair landing. Floor-to-floor 3000; roof: hip at 22.5°.
Stair: straight or U-shaped, meeting your local code's maximum riser and minimum going. Include a void or a stair opening with a balustrade on the first floor.
Step 1 — Datums
- 1Set levels: Ground 0, First 3000, Roof 6000 (plus a top-of-footing reference level if you like).
- 2Add a simple structural grid on the external wall lines (1–3, A–C) and pin it.
Step 2 — Ground floor
- 1Model external walls up to First, internal walls, doors, windows and the ground floor slab.
- 2Place rooms.
Step 3 — First floor
- 1Model external walls for First up to Roof — or make ground-floor external walls go Up to level: Roof if the build-up is the same.
- 2Create the first floor slab by picking walls; add the stair opening.
- 3Model internal walls, doors and windows for First; place rooms.
Copy/paste aligned to selected levels (Paste › Aligned to Selected Levels) moves repeated elements up a floor accurately.
Step 4 — Stair and roof
- 1Create a component stair from Ground to First; check risers and going.
- 2Add railings to the stair and a balustrade around the opening.
- 3Roof by footprint on the Roof level; attach walls.
Step 5 — Documentation
- 1Create a section through the stair and all four elevations.
- 2Dimension both floor plans; tag doors, windows and rooms.
- 3Create door and window schedules.
- 4Create sheets A-101 (Ground), A-102 (First), A-201 (Elevations), A-301 (Section) and place views and schedules.
- 5Export all sheets to one PDF.
Your task
Coordination check
- Look at the section: do floors, walls and stair line up?
- Check headroom above the stair in the section.
- Change the First level to 3100 and review what changes.
You should end up with: A consistent model where one change updates everything.
